Frequently asked questions

Questions about quality assurance.

Short answers about surveys, audits, self-assessments, GTEC compliance and consultancy.

What does CQAD do?

CQAD leads quality assurance at Central University: it coordinates curriculum reviews and teaching evaluation, keeps the GTEC Compliance Register and accreditation calendar, runs the student surveys, carries out internal quality audits, and maintains the Consultancy and Grants Register.

Is my course evaluation really anonymous?

Yes. Who took part and what they answered are stored separately with no link between them. Answers are released in groups of at least five in random order, lecturers only see results after the survey closes and only when five or more students responded, and anything published comes from at least twenty responses.

When will my lecturer see my comments?

Only after the survey closes, only as part of a group of at least five responses, and only if the comment contains nothing that could identify you. Comments with names, phone numbers, emails or index numbers are held back for review.

When is the annual self-assessment due?

Every school and directorate submits its self-assessment to CQAD by 31 March. The Dean or Director signs it, and CQAD validates it.

What happens after an internal audit?

The audit report goes to the unit head, the Dean or Director, and the Vice-Chancellor. Any finding rated 1 or 2 needs a corrective action plan within 30 days, which CQAD then verifies.

How quickly must GTEC directives be actioned?

Within 60 days of receipt. CQAD tracks every directive in the GTEC Compliance Register.

How do I register a consultancy or grant?

Notify your Dean or Director, who endorses it to the Vice-Chancellor's Office. After approval, Finance opens a project account and CQAD registers the project. You can start in the CQAD Workspace.

What is the overhead on external projects?

The standard rate is 20% of total direct project costs. A lower rate applies only where a funder's written policy requires it, or with the Vice-Chancellor's written approval.

Can I do private consultancy?

Yes, if it is entirely outside university time, uses no university resources and does not use the University's name. You must disclose it in writing to your Dean or Director in advance and get clearance.

Who can see complaints data?

CQAD sees only a de-identified log of the type, campus, dates and outcome of complaints, supplied by the Registrar's Office. It does not see names or personal details.
